Joseph LeTourneau, M.D.

Joseph Letourneau, MD, received his undergraduate training from the University of Michigan, where he obtained a degree in biology with high honors. He earned his MD from UCSF’s School of Medicine. During medical school, he spent one year obtaining an “Area of Concentration in Clinical and Translational Research certificate,” during which time he became interested in fertility preservation. He was mentored by Dr. Mitchell Rosen. Dr. Letourneau completed his OB/GYN residency training at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He is currently undertaking fellowship training in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at UCSF.Dr. Letourneau’s research centers on: a) quality of life after cancer and b) on creating individualized estimates of reproductive health outcomes after cancer treatment. With his mentors, he investigates ways to optimize oocyte and embryo yield during fertility preservation. Dr. Letourneau has begun to advocate for: a) insurance coverage for fertility preservation at the state-level in Sacramento and b) for access to infertility services at a national-level in Washington, D.C.
