COVID-19 Fertility Preservation Update

COVID-19 Fertility Preservation Update - blog post image

On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff members of the Alliance for Fertility Preservation, we wanted to reach out to our community to extend our wishes for good health and solidarity at this time. Although prohibitions on large gatherings have caused us to put some of our scheduled events on hold for a while, we do want to assure you that we are working just as hard, albeit remotely, to continue to provide fertility preservation resources and support to those who need them.

We also want to address the new recommendations from the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), which is suggesting a pause on most fertility treatments at this time. We have been in contact with ASRM, and as the guidance suggests, this cessation of services does not apply to medically necessary fertility preservation that is needed for cancer patients. The guidance states,“Continue care in cases that are urgent . . . “urgent” refers to all treatment that is time-sensitive, such as impending gonadotoxic therapy.”

Should you encounter any difficulty in obtaining fertility preservation consultations or services during this unprecedented national emergency, please reach out to us at 925-290-8950 or at info@allianceforfertilitypreservation.org for assistance.

Please know that our work to expand insurance coverage, to plan stakeholder meetings for the fall, to develop materials including our toolkit and Fertility Scout 2.0 continues during this time. We appreciate your support, and are here as a resource for you until we can connect and advocate in person again!

Stay safe and be well,

The AFP Board and staff.
