The New York State Legislature and Governor Andrew Cuomo have just finalized the state’s 2020 budget, which provides for the coverage of all medically necessary fertility preservation procedures by ALL commercial insurers. It also provides for IVF coverage by large group health insurance plans. This extension of coverage marks a tremendous gain for cancer patients, survivors, and all New Yorkers who need these vital reproductive services to build their families. This also represents an important victory for the coalition of nonprofits, professionals, cancer centers, clinics, pharmaceutical partners and individual patients who have fought for this coverage for so many years.
"We are grateful to Governor Cuomo for recognizing cancer patients’ right to obtain medically necessary fertility preservation services. Ensuring this coverage will allow newly diagnosed New Yorkers to focus on their cancer treatment, while knowing that their ability to one day have a family is being valued and protected,” said Joyce Reinecke, Executive Director of the Alliance for Fertility Preservation.
